In the first half of the year the number of international arrivals to the country grew 12% over the same period of 2015.

During the first half of 2016, Costa Rica registered significant growth in international arrivals. Seven out of 10 people who visit us by air, which represents the main port of entry, which recorded from January to June increased by 16.8% over the first half of 2015, according to data provided by the General Directorate of Migration (DGME) and analyzed by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT).

According to Minister Mauricio Ventura, growth presented in the airway, reflects the work that permanently has been carried out to attract airlines, as well as strengthening and increasing current connections, with the aim of optimizing our levels of tourism competitiveness.
Priority markets continue to grow
In the first half of 2016, Costa Rica registered an upturn in arrivals of Americans and Europeans.
Such is the case of the US, which registered almost 700 thousand people who entered through international airports, an increase of 20.9% air; ie, 116,575 people were counted more than entered the country by air, compared to the first half of 2015.
It is also important to highlight the growth presented in Europe by air. For the review period 175,186 international arrivals, representing an increase of 13.1% for this period was recorded.
An interesting case is United Kingdom, which for the first half of the year grew by 60.8% by air.
